ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY THE PRICE OF A PINT?
Prescot Cables Chairman Tony Zeverona is asking all Cables Fans and Sponsors to consider whether they would be willing to pay the price of a pint per week to hold on to their best players. The Club Chairman wants the fans and all persons involved at the club to support a players wages fund by considering whether they could afford to make a small regular weekly payment to the club
Cables is a Community owned and run club that relies upon the good nature and financial support of local businesses and most importantly it's very loyal fan base. "If it wasn’t for the financial support of the fans the club would have folded long ago. Although we are fortunate to have fantastic attendance figures, income from that alone cannot sustain a club at this level".
Many at the club are continually frustrated to see good players, often developed through our Youth and Reserve Teams start to show promise in the Senior Team only to see them enticed away by the offer of a contract elsewhere. Tony adds, "It's great to see Cables players develop and make the most of their careers and that is partly what Cables is about, but it's so frustrating to continually lose our best players to clubs that have more financial backing".
Spirits are very high at the club again due to new signings and renewed optimism.
The Cables Chairman is now determined that the efforts will not be thwarted by the club losing their best players stating, "We are trying to build a club that the borough can be proud of and by supporting this scheme you will help us do that".
What is being asked is for supporters to pay towards a players fund that can be used to start securing players on modest contracts so that the club can guarantee stability at the club for the future seasons.
Tony added, "We've been very lucky at Cables when supporters have responded to support schemes such as the Supporters on the Pitch scheme but we now need help in keeping hold of our best players so that the Club and fans can continue to enjoy recent improvements. Its a sad fact that without this scheme we will lose our best players. The board are all signed up to this scheme and we hope the fans and sponsors can see their way to supporting it as well".
We will publish a Role of Honour in the Matchday Programme as well as on the Website to thank our loyal benefactors.
Fans are asked to consider whether they can make a regular payment of £2.50 per week. Corporate sponsors are asked whether they can make the same payment or perhaps more. Those willing to help are asked to speak to Tony Zeverona, any board member or set up a Standing Order using the details below.
